Dakota Territory. Reconnaissance to Whiskey Gap ended.

Dakota Territory. Reconnaissance from Camp Plumb to the Red Buttes on Deer Creek began. The expedition continued eastwards to Box Elder Canon, then north to the North Platte River. A party of 100 Indians was observed crossing the river but was not attacked due to the absence of fords in a time of high water.

Dakota Territory. Operation at Three Crossings Station began. A band of Native Americans had attacked the station and tore down the telegraph lines, before retreating across the Sweetwater River towards Wind River. Federal troops launched a pursuit of the band.

Dakota Territory. Skirmish at Deer Creek as Federal troops were attacked by a war band of 50 Indians.

Dakota Territory. Skirmish at Deer Creek Station. Bill Comstock, formerly of Fort Laramie, is reported to have led the Indian band which attacked the station.

Georgia. Former Confederate Secretary of War Stephen Russell Mallory was captured at La Grange and transferred to Fort Lafayette, New York, where he would remain in custody until his release in March 1866.

Kansas. Skirmish near Pawnee Rock as Indians attacked two men travelling from Fort Larned, killing one of them while the second escaped.

Missouri. Reconnaissance to Lebanon and Warsaw ended.

Missouri. Skirmish with guerrillas on the Blackwater Creek near Longwood.

Nebraska Territory. Reconnaissance to Midway Station and Plum Creek ended

Virginia. Former Confederate President Jefferson Finis Davis and former Vice-President Alexander Hamilton Stephens were transferred from the steamer William P Clyde to the ironclad warship USS Tuscarora, to be taken to Fort Warren in Boston harbour, Massachusetts.
