New York. The three ships of the US Navy assigned to foreign stations had all been recalled. USS Powhatan reached New York from its station at Vera Cruz, Mexico, after operating previously in the Pacific Ocean around China and Japan.

Texas. Fort McIntosh was abandoned by US forces led by Major C C Sibley (3rd US Infantry).
